I can't really say that this day got off to a good start - in the middle of Easter Saturday, it was all jammed up, and I had a hell of a time getting somewhere to park and take photos. I twisted and turned, enduring a good hour of traffic jams, and then, I confess, setting off without knowing where I was going to take my camera. The weather was rotten, there wasn't a cat to be seen outside, the wind was blowing like crazy and making me shake in my shots, in short. I parked in a small square at the back of the mall and from there walked, walked and walked again, for six hours, before returning home, head and memory card full of images. I got lost at quite a few points, which is one of the problems with going blind in a corner and having a rotten sense of direction. Especially when, like me, you tend to climb over fences and barriers and end up just about anywhere. Quite a few abandoned places, the huge property with the cars left to rust between the tall weeds, the sort of disused shed, backyards where nobody goes, alleyways, and even the underside of a bridge by climbing the sort of arches. In fact, on the whole, there's quite a lot of rust, cracks and crazing - you wouldn't notice it living from day to day, walking through the streets without stopping, but pause for two seconds to look at the walls and buildings around you and everything collapses in a shower of dirt and decrepitude. It's quite frightening. I don't think anyone could repaint everything under a new coat of paint, but there really are some visions that border on the post-apocalyptic if you think about it.
